ACKNOWLEDGING TRUTH!
Giving credit where credit is due
There are many opinions floating around about the speaker debate of January 2023. Some are angry about the fact that the appointment of Speaker of the House did not go smoothly. Some believe that the “20” were opportunists, only concerned with how they might exploit the slim Republican majority for personal gain. Some believe that the original “5 holdouts” imperiled the “cause” of this next Congress for selfish reasons. Some believe that the eventual outcome resulted from sheer luck.
However, regardless of where they come down on the righteousness or lack thereof, everyone paying close attention seems to agree that Chip Roy is one of the “good guys.”
That said, Chip Roy appeared on the Steve Deace Show, January 10th, near the end of the program. I will summarize his account of what actually happened, how, and why.
This interview appears near the 1:18 mark when Steve invites Chip to take part in the “Fake News or Not” segment of the show.
He said that this debate began last summer, long before anyone knew what the margins would be.
There needed to be rules changes, both in the conference and on the House Floor, to restore regular order.
They were able to accomplish a number of these things, markedly as a result of the five who were willing to publicly set themselves apart from the majority to oppose McCarthy’s appointment as Speaker.
There were seven who signed a “dear colleague letter” on December, 8th where they established the reason, and the requirements for anyone who intended to become Speaker.
This enabled conservatives to eventually effect change.
He said that this list of demands uncannily resembles the eventual concessions achieved through this debate.
I invite the reader to listen to this radio show, especially the Chip Roy interview. It will likely answer most, if not all of your concerns about whether this debate made a mockery of the House of Representatives, or made possible the restoration of this hallowed body.
Chip Roy has appeared on program after program answering questions about this issue, and his revelations have remained consistent throughout.
I believe that anyone who says that Republicans had already secured 90% of these concessions before the clash is calling Chip Roy a liar. You be the judge, but until I see hard evidence to the contrary, I believe Chip.
God bless you, Dave
