Do Your Senators Represent Their Constituents?
I received this email in reply to an email I sent to Senator Bill Cassidy. I will post my response first, with his message following. I will footnote his statements to which I am referring.
I will then post it on his Facebook Page, my Facebook page, my MeWe page, and my newsletter at, https://daveclandry.substack.com/p/coming-soon?utm_source=edit-profile-visibility
“Dear Mr. Landry:
Thank you for writing in with your concerns regarding the attack on the United States Capitol, the events that took place on January 6, 2021, and those responsible. I appreciate hearing from you and I understand your concern.
As you are aware, rioters violently breached the halls of Congress in an attempt to disrupt the electoral vote certification and the peaceful transfer of power. They attempted to subvert the Constitution and destroy the Republic. (1) What they did was wrong. (2) It was seditious and un-American. Those responsible should be charged to the fullest extent of the law. (3) Ultimately, these cowards failed. The House and Senate came back into session, completed their business, and proved that our democracy works. No matter what these insurrectionists (4) attempted to do, our country’s institutions were stronger.
On March 2 nd , 2021, FBI Director Christopher Wray appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to answer questions from Senators regarding the events of that day. He said that to date, the FBI has not seen any evidence of Antifa being responsible or taking part in the riot at the Capitol. So far, more than 300 people have been charged in connection with the, armed insurrection. (5) The vast majority of them are members of far right extremist groups.
I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the family and co-workers of U.S. Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick. This officer died in the line of duty and was a protector of the U.S. Capitol. There is no greater honor that can be given to an American. In total, 5 other Americans died. These deaths did not need to happen. Please remember their families’ grief as well. (7)
I will continue to represent the views of my state and do so through hearing from constituents like you.
Please continue to reach out, either by phone or by email, when you have another question or concern. You can reach my office in Washington DC at 202-224-5824 or submit an email at https://www.cassidy.senate.gov/contact.
Sincerely, Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D.”
Below are my remarks, in response to Senator Cassidy’s assertions, and accusations. I believe that it is time for a constitutionalist candidate to come forward to oppose Senator Cassidy in the next Republican Primary. Too bad that this is not due until 2026, (if I remember correctly.)
(1) (During this, “riot,” on Jan, 6th, 2021 the only weapon used, on another human being was the weapon of a Capitol Police officer. Where is the investigation of how that deadly shot came to be executed, and why do we not know the name of the officer? No firearms have yet been found in the possession of any of the, “rioters,” how can this, “trespass,” be treated as an armed insurrection, and how can you allow yourself to be complicit in this deception?)
(2) (Yes, I agree, it was wrong for them to force themselves into the Capital building, and take part in group trespassing, though I do not believe that it is a felony, unlike the violences that were committed by the pink hat revolution on Jan 20th, 2017, or any of the BLM, and ANTIFA riots of 2020. Why are you not concerned about the violence perpetrated on Federal buildings throughout many of our cities by BLM, and ANTIFA? Why have many that were arrested for arson, murder, physical violence, and other felonies by these groups been released while our DOJ is hell bent on prosecuting citizens that are concerned that Biden was allowed to steal the 2020 election, and why are you helping them?)
(3) (I agree, criminal trespass is a crime, not a very serious one, but why are any of them being held in solitary confinement, and why are you not fighting to get to the bottom of that? Why were there no arrests of the, “rioters,” that stormed the Capital buildings during the Kavanaugh hearings? Why was Senator Schumer not held to account for inciting a riot, while threatening two Supreme Court Justices?)
(4) (In order for this to have been an attempted insurrection, the, “insurrectionists,” would have to have been armed, (like many in these ANTIFA, and BLM riots.) No firearms have been found on any of these, so called insurrectionists, so what makes them insurrectionists? Why are you assisting in the persecution, and prosecution of patriotic Americans who were paying attention to the dastardly deeds perpetrated by Democrats in the 2020 election cycle, and attempting to require a legal, and constitutional challenge?)
(5) (How could this have been an armed insurrection, when there were no firearms, or explosives found?
(6) (Can you name anyone that was armed during this, “armed insurrection,” what weapon they possessed, and what, “far right extremist group,” they belonged to? If your statement is true, you should be able to name the offender, or offenders, and the make, model, and caliber of each weapon.
If you believe any, or all of the accusations you wrote in this email, I am forced to question, either your intelligence, or your integrity. If you expect me to believe them, I must question your intelligence, and I am no longer comfortable in your representation of the great state of Louisiana, as my Senator.)
(7) (I have a hard time believing that you are unaware that the only death that was a direct result of violence, was Ashley Babbet. She was unarmed, and shot by a Capital Police officer, and you have not mentioned her once. I share your empathy for Officer Brian Sicknick, and his family, but I have similar sympathy, and empathy for the persons, and their families that are being targeted by the most powerful enforcement organization in America. Where is your sympathy for these American citizens?)
(8) (You have not thus far stated anything to make me comfortable with this statement.)
God bless you, Dave
