Recently it has become popular among conservatives to discourage the use of the term, “double standards,” when referencing the way our legal system treats Democrats, and Republicans, especially conservatives.
The great Dan Bongino has made this a recurring theme on his podcast, implying that “double standards” does not accurately describe the reality we currently face. He compares double standards to hypocrisy.
While I fully agree with his assertion that the basis for this double standard between the treatment of constitutionalists and marxists is more than hypocrisy. Democrats see it as more a matter of their perceived mastery over us plebs. They perceive it as a hierarchy.
Though I believe that Dan is correct concerning these perceptions among the “elites” of our society, I believe he is subconsciously submitting to their redefining of the term, “double standards.”
I believe that in order to have a correct understanding of this matter, as from a 30,000 foot vantage, we should recognize that the basis is that these elites reckon one standard for themselves, and share absolutely no part of that standard with those outside of their sphere of privilege.
It is not that double standards is synonymous with hypocrisy, it is more accurately a comparison of royalty to their subjects. There are no laws in their kingdom able to restrict the liberty of royalty. They believe that laws are for the subjects, and no law is considered too restrictive of the liberty of their subjects, by royalty.
This is increasingly our reality in America. While we are supposed to be governed by our constitution, those in charge simply ignore the restrictions placed upon their actions by the constitution, and make up legal requirements to be imposed on those that oppose them, completely without regard for the text of the constitution.
While they continually subvert the laws, statutes, and the constitution for their own purposes, using these perverted instrumentalities as weapons against those that tolerate, and excuse their reprobate behavior, they refuse to even acknowledge the fact of their manifold transgressions.
The problem is that they feel no need to submit to the constraints of our constitution, even if they know what they are. However, they have no problem making up requirements, and restrictions for others, claiming that they are, “constitutional restrictions.”
Knowledge of what our constitution actually says is not seen as necessary to most Democrats, or Democrat sympathizers.
The true meaning of double standards is not simply hypocrisy, it is the belief that standards are different for Democrats than they are for those that oppose Democrats. The belief is that Democrats are above the constitution. It is simply designed as a cudgel to be used against their opposition. They count themselves as immuned to the standards of the constitution.
It may seem an insignificant contrast, but I believe that anyone who really thinks about it will see that it is really a drastic one. It is like comparing the king, or queen of a monarchy to a slave in that same society. Democrats fancy themselves as the monarchs, and anyone that opposes that perspective as equivalent to slaves.
Don’t shoot me, I’m only revealing what I have observed in the actions of others. That is the only thing that explains why so many Democrats want to see President Trump, his family, and anyone who dares to support him, in prison for the rest of their lives. Why they are unmoved when innocent visitors to the Capital are put in prison, without charges, and without bail, yet are also unconcerned when violent criminals are not charged with their crimes, or are treated leniently for them. That is why they have no compassion what-so-ever for crimes committed against what Hillary Clinton called, “deplorables.”
I am proudly one of those, “deplorables.”
God bless you, Dave
