HOW DOES GOD EXPECT US TO ADDRESS POLITICS?
Is it spiritual negligence to engage in political battles?
I was listening to Jason Whitlock as he substitute hosted on the Glenn Beck Program, 12/21/2021 episode. It is a fantastic program, and I recommend it to everyone. He said something that made me think of something that has been said to me.
I will not bore you with his statement, but I will speak on the topic that he brought to my memory. Although I believe that the volume of Bible verses that I discuss speak for themselves, I have been accused of focusing on the political, rather than the spiritual.
I believe that this perception might be the product of a misunderstanding.
I believe that we are all sinners, including, if not chiefly, me. I also believe that the only salvation for that sin is Jesus. Jesus was born a man, ( or human, as, “the second Adam,” lived a life of temptation, yet without sinning, and voluntarily accepted the death penalty for my sin. I also believe that this salvation is the most important thing in every human’s life, but as it says in James,
“But someone will say, ‘You have faith, and I have works.’ Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”
James 2:18 NKJV
I believe that God, and Jesus Christ expect us to, “show you my faith by my works.”
That means that we are not only expected to verbally witness the salvation of our LORD, but engage our faith in every area of our life.
In Ephesians it says,
“that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.”
Ephesians 1:12NKJV
Our very life, and everything that encompasses that life, should BE to the praise of God.
Likewise, the spiritual battle that we were born into encompasses political matters, and in order to contend in spiritual warfare, on behalf of our status as children of the living God, we must recognize our spiritual opponent, and his game plan.
According to the Bible, our spiritual opponent is the devil, Lucifer, or Satan. He has team members, and a game plan, and the playing field is life on planet Earth. We are called to compete in this battle, on this playing field, by GOD himself. If we fail to recognize our opponent, and reject the contest, we will not please our LORD, or be spiritually successful.
One of the many ploys used by Satan is in the field of politics. If we defer this contest to him, we are not faithful in our service to our LORD.
In the battlefield of politics, Satan has many teammates, those that have pledged allegiance to him, and those that Marxists refer to as “useful idiots.”
We do not serve ourselves, or our Lord well if we ignore this battlefield, our opponents in the battle, or the importance of the battle.
I often speak of political matters, politicians, and supporters of political persuasions. This is not because I am not invested in the spiritual battle, or because I think that politics is of greater significance, rather because politics is a chief point of attack by our adversary, the devil. He seeks to enslave us, and inhibit our ability to serve God. By ignoring this, we ceed many victories to our opponent.
If we are to be faithful in service to our Lord, as believers, I believe we must faithfully compete in battles, as they present themselves.
Good bless you, Dave
