Wasn’t it Jesus that followed the coustoms, and traditions of the house of Israel and its leadership, the chief priest, the scribes, and the Pharisees? Was he submissive to these leaders in every way, as he demonstrated for us how we are to walk in harmony with the church leadership that God has given us?
Didn’t Jesus follow the pattern of believers before him, like Samson, King David, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and, Azariah, (also known as Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.) Does your Bible depict them all as kind men, concerned with setting an example of politeness, and virtue? Did they capitulate to the whims of their government? Did they obey the law of the king, or were they bold and tenacious, defenders of God’s laws?
Many modern Christians believe that in our Christian witness we are to exemplify obedience to the “authorities,” both in our churches, and government. Many believe that Romans 13 instructs us to obey the government no matter what. Where they find this in scripture is beyond me. I can’t think of a single man of God recorded in scripture that was follower of men. In their faithful service to God, they often found themselves in direct opposition to the government, as well as religious leadership.
Remember, it was the religious leaders that insisted that the Roman government crucify Jesus. Are we to believe that it was Jesus that was in error? I don’t think so.
Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m not suggesting that we should be offensive for the sake of offense, rather we should stand for truth with intensity, and integrity, boldly, resisting the urge to fit in, for the sake of fitting in. It can be uncomfortable to stand for truth in the short term, but the discomfort of not standing for truth can be eternal. Shouldn’t we be more concerned with pleasing God, than men?
We live in a constitutional republic, and it is our duty to preserve it as a Christian Nation. There is no-one tasked with the chore to do that for us. If we are to be successful in preserving the USA as a christian nation, we must do the work. We must know our Bible, we must understand our constitution, and we must resist the devil and his workers, that want to sift us as wheat. As we resist them, we must be steadfast in our reliance in the Gospel.
Article V, Convention of States gives us the instrument capable of steering our republic back to its original course.
“The Congress, whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary, shall propose Amendments to this Constitution, or, on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States, shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments, which, in either Case, shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes, as Part of this Constitution, when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States, or by Conventions in three fourths thereof, as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress; Provided that no Amendment which may be made prior to the Year One thousand eight hundred and eight shall in any Manner affect the first and fourth Clauses in the Ninth Section of the first Article; and that no State, without its Consent, shall be deprived of its equal Suffrage in the Senate.”
