I often hear fellow Americans say of political activists, “both sides do it,” or “it is true of both sides.” This statement continues to disturb me. If what is meant is that the persons that make up both groups sin, I am in full agreement. I would even agree that every member, of every group might sin often, and egregiously, but I do not believe that it is honest to accuse anyone of particular sins that they have not committed, or distract from anyones guilt, by accusing others .
“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!” Isaiah 5:20
Our US Constitution begins, “We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
The purpose of our foundational governing document is as clear as it could be, right here in the Preamble. Those who support these objectives, and the statutes, and policies that make up our constitution, and people that also support them, are supporting, and defending the US Constitution.
Those that seek to undermine the provisions of the US Constitution, by any means, are not supporting, and defending the US Constitution. These are facts. They are not subject to opinion. One may believe, and proclaim that our US Constitution is a tyrannical document, worthy to be undermined, (and they are constitutionally free to believe so,) but efforts to do so can not be considered, “supporting, and defending it.” They may be exercising constitutional freedoms, but they are not supporting or defending them. Of those that disagree with this, it is difficult to reconcile their opinion with Isaiah 5:20.
If we equate the actions of those that support and defend the US Constitution with those that seek to subvert, and undermine it, how do we claim to support and defend the US Constitution, or even apply Isaiah 5:20?
