What is the Law? Who determines what the is “the law?” How should we respond to the law of the land, and why?
Some have said that America is a nation of laws, others disagree.
So what is a law?
This may seem like a silly conversation, but I suggest that it is one of the most important conversations we could possibly have.
Some have said that America is a nation of political will, but then who determines what the political will of our nation is? Isn’t that exactly the charter of Congress?
The people elect representatives to represent their will, then the states elect Senators to represent the will of the states, and together they consort to establish that items either represent the “will of the people,” or they do not. If passed through Congress, the President, (chief executive officer,) either ratifies it into “law,” or vetoes it.
So if my math is correct, our laws should represent, “the will of the people,” and thereby America should be a, “nation of laws,” and those laws should represent the political will of the people.
The only way that I can understand this not to be true, is if our Constitution is being violated.
Our founders and the framers of our Constitution set the Bible as the foundation of these processes, so the ultimate foundational “law” is the Word of God.
Where do we find the origins of a righteous government? I believe that it was recorded in the second book of the Bible, where God revealed His commandments, (also known as THE LAW,) to the nation of Israel by way of Moses.
I believe that this effectively establishes that laws are the best mechanism for righteous governance. In this early record of a righteous nation’s government, we see that God chose to make the laws for His people, and I believe that those laws remain the foundation of all righteous government, but the limitations of the human mind, and the prevalence of human sin, require some refinement.
The US Congress was created for this very purpose. It was meant to allow for human input in the application of God’s laws in the affairs of men.
Our Constitution’s framers determined that the best way for righteousness to prevail in civil society was to give each individual citizen a voice in their governance, thus the brilliant structure of the US Congress.
It is only the depravity of the human, American mind that has rendered to us the corruption present in today’s American government.
“Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” John Adams
If we are to restore the righteous nature of the origin of this nation, Americans must avail themselves of the instruments afforded to American society.
Each American has a voice if they will use it. Each American is meant to have agency in the government of their society. Ignorance of these facts and the neglect of this agency has and will result in the tyranny of the unjust and the despotic.
There are many patriotic movements active throughout our nation, our states, and our communities, bent upon the restoration of the United States of America, as founded.
I implore my fellow Americans to find an avenue for political awareness, and activism, where they can allow their talents to contribute to the establishment of righteousness in our present society.
A moral, and religious people will likely heed this encouragement, and contribute to the rejection of despotic tyranny, and the re-establishment of the rule of American law.
