Many conservative Republicans in Louisiana are concerned about the idea of Democrats leading chairmanships within our House of Representatives.
Chris and Danielle interviewed representative Danny McCormick on episode 110 of “The State of Freedom,” and asked him about these rumors.
While he agrees that it doesn’t really make sense for Democrats to hold leadership positions in a Republican majority, he sheds a little light on some mitigating circumstances.
According to Rep. McCormick, House rules restrict the membership of committee chairmen to the committee they chair.
Another point he raised is that the Speaker of the House has the authority to replace chairmen at will.
“The chairman may control the committee, but the speaker controls the chairman.”
By the chairmanship of democrats, their service may be limited to the committees they chair.
Whether this strategy is successfully employed will be known as the sessions progress. We are told that according to the rules, the Speaker will be able to make corrections as needed.
We hope to see our legislature controlled by conservative Republicans for the first time in my life. And in concert with the Governorship of Jeff Landry, hopefully, we will partake in the Floridification of Louisiana.
