The Supreme Court has recently conducted oral arguments over the case, “LA v. Callais.”
This case involves the redistricting of Louisiana’s congressional districts to advantage Democrats in the House of Representatives.
The State of Louisiana now favors the Republican Party in registrations. President Trump received the majority of the vote in 2016, 2020, and 2024.
The US Constitution requires that congressional districts be revisited after each census to ensure proper representation of the voters.
Our Constitution intended for these districts to represent geographical communities, not political parties.
The Louisiana Legislature modified districts according to the 2020 census results. Six districts were drawn into the congressional map.
Challenges were made to this map in a federal court.
Robinson v. Landry - The American Redistricting Project
The ruling demanded that the Louisiana Legislature redraw the map to give greater representation to black voters, (Democrat voters.)
This is a racist command, and was appealed. Subsequent appeals land this case in the Supreme Court, where it will be determined whether states will be required to use politically racial majorities and party affiliation to give partiality over the majority of citizens’ electives.
We Americans should all be concerned that the federal judiciary has gotten involved in this issue at all. The Constitution dictates that the formation of congressional districts is given to state legislatures. No part of the federal government has a legitimate part to play.
Furthermore, as the plaintiffs in LA v. Callais maintain, the formation of congressional districts to advantage racial preferences and political parties is a blatant violation of anti-discrimination laws,
the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment and 15th Amendment to the Constitution.
The rights of every Louisiana citizen were violated by the passage of a new congressional district based on race.
What most disturbs me is that our newly elected Republican Governor, Jeff Landry, made it his first order of business after inauguration to call for a special session of the LA legislature to redraw congressional districts in accordance race, and the legislature obliged him.
Our Republican Governor demanded that our Republican majority legislature adjust the congressional map to turn a Republican controlled federal congressional district into a democrat controlled district. This gave a two-vote advantage to the Democrat Caucus in Congress, regardless of other factors.
This is unconstitutional, irrational, racist, and unacceptable.
I believe that this fact alone makes the need for a Republican primary opponent necessary in the race for our next governor, though he has compounded this offense with additional intrusions into the functions of our legislature.
God bless you, Dave
