Some of us are determined to, “be Americans.” We are, “the proud, the free, the righteous,” and we let everyone know just how proud and righteous we are. We demand our rights, and dare anyone to resist our demands.
Is this the attitude that made America great? Is this what our forefathers believed? Did they demand “their rights?” Or were they humble, and committed to a nation where people were free from tyranny?
When one person expects their desires to be met, at the expense of others, is this an act of liberty, or is it more like Lincoln’s description of people, “ winging their bread from the sweat of other men’s faces?”
Nathan Hale had a far different view of his rights, and responsibilities as an American.
In the short audio clip I’ve attached to this article, you will hear Rick Green’s recital of the story of Nathan Hale’s final passion for America, recorded on “Wallbuilders Live”radio episode.
