PREPARING THE AMERICAN YOUTH
“Train up a child in the way he should go: And when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Proverbs 22:6
How can American adults properly train their children?
What are they to be trained in?
To what degree are we accountable to God for whether we faithfully execute this responsibility?
We will all pass on from this life. Some will die of old age, some will be victims of fatal accidents, terminal diseases, or violent crimes. Some will live a long, full life, while others will have it cut short.
We have little control over the time, or circumstances of our demise, but we are all responsible, and accountable for what we do with our lives until until our final earthly event.
If we have been blessed with children, they are a gift from the Lord. They are blessings, as well as responsibilities. We are to teach them how to speak, stand, walk, feed themselves, clean their hinnies after eliminating waste, and provide them spiritual, and educational guidance.
These are responsibilities, not options. God is watching, and we are either faithful in this regard, or we are not. No human is without flaw, we are all limited in our ability to perform the duties that fall to us, but that does not relieve us of those duties, or responsibilities.
Few parents shirk their duty to feed their offspring. Few fail to clothe them, or teach them our language. Most Christians are faithful to introduce their children to the church through example. They may be casual weekly attendees to church, or they may be faithful students of scripture. Some even choose not to study the word of God for themselves, but are satisfied to accept the teachings of their Pastor once a week, as guide to spiritual growth.
Some are satisfied with an annual tradition to observe the birth, and resurrection of Jesus Christ on Christmas, and Easter.
To what degree we satisfy our duties is the choice of each of us, and the judgement of our faithfulness is left to the Lord, but the fact is, these duties are real.
All people are citizens of some government, and as Americans, our citizenship is to the United States of America. Scripture sets our civic duty as rendering to Caesar what is Caesar’s. Who is the “Caesar” of the USA?
If we are to be faithful in carrying out this directive, we must first understand the, “who, what, when, where, and why,” of its implementation. So, I ask you again, according to our Constitution, Who is the “Caesar” of the USA?
Our constitution begins with, “We the people.” This document sets the sovereign as the American citizens, and it does so both as the collective, and the individual. It doesn’t set any citizen as the better, or lessor, regardless of their prominence, or their position. Our constitution calls for equal justice under the law, for all. Yet how often are unequal scales of justice executed upon us, or our neighbors?
How have we come to the circumstance of such complete disregard for the spirit of our governing principals? Has it been in spite of Americans’ faithful recognition, and defense of these governing principals, or because they have not been adequately esteemed, guarded, and implemented?
Let me suggest that among these duties that I have addressed, is a civic duty to know the supreme law of our nation, the US Constitution, and support, and defend it with the fervor of our founders.
Just after the conclusion of our Constitutional Convention, Mrs. Powel of Philadelphia asked Benjamin Franklin, “Well Doctor, what have we got, a republic or a democracy?”
With no hesitation whatsoever, Franklin responded, “ A republic if you can keep it.”
Ronald Reagan is known to have said, “Freedom is never more than one generation away from extinction. We didn't pass it to our children in the bloodstream. It must be fought for, protected, and handed on for them to do the same, or one day we will spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
Each American parent has a duty to their nation, and to their children, to preserve the liberty that was inherited for their children, and to teach those children to do the same. As Christians, many Americans are bound by a higher level of responsibility to the Lord of creation to do the same.
How many of our youth have been taught to revere the Word of God? How many have been taught that they have inherited this civic responsibility? Who is responsible for this deficit?
On Thursday, December 1st, Convention of States Louisiana, North Shore districts, held a monthly meeting in Madisonville. There were 35 attendees, and one of them was younger than forty years old.
LA state Representative Mark Wright, of district 77, spoke to us on the importance of getting to know our legislators, and informing them of our legislative concerns.
It appears to me that Americans have not all been faithful to pass on the principals of liberty to their progeny, and this problem is perhaps greater today than at any time in America’s history.
Let us engage our youth in spiritual knowledge, and civic duty, before we, “spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it was once like in the United States where men were free.”
Just before the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama said,
“We’re five days away from the fundamental transformation of the United States.”
Into what do you suppose he intended to transform America? Have we been as committed to America’s defense, as these forces with with Obama has associated himself, to her transformation?
Just how concerned are we for the rising generations of Americans, if we do not restrain, and overcome the marxist transformation being perpetrated against her now?
