I’ve been a fan of Mark Levin for decades, and I rarely disagree with his legal, political, or principled logic, but I think he is missing the forest for the trees on his issue.
As Mark often says, “I think for myself.”
When I disagree with anyone’s assessment, it is because my reasoning has brought me to a different conclusion.
Regarding SALT Tax deductions, Mark has decided to address the issue from an emotional objection to taxes. He has spoken of reducing SALT deductions as the “punishment of blue (Democrat) states,” and promotes these duductions as, “allowing tax payers to keep more of their own money.”
While I agree in principle, these views ignore a larger principle.
“The term "SALT" refers to "State and Local Taxes," which are taxes levied by individual states, counties, and municipalities. These can include income taxes, property taxes, and sales taxes, among others. The SALT deduction allows taxpayers to deduct these taxes from their federally taxable income, potentially reducing their overall tax liability.”__ allaboutfinance.org
Democrat Marxist, “deep-state” bureaucrats produce nothing. They view their profession as devising ways to “lawfully” separate producers from the wealth they produce to be collected by themselves and their allies to “punish their enemies and reward their friends.” Jesse Kelly.
What federal SALT deductions pretend to do is to allow the producers in heavily Democrat controlled states to be reimbursed by the federal government for the excessive tax burden imposed on them by their Democrat state government.
What they actually do is to allow oppressive state governments to harvest federal tax dollars from the citizens of 49 other states. As these oppressive governments increase the tax burden on their citizens, the federal government softens the burden on these taxpayers, and that burden is distributed throughout the fifty states to collect the funds needed to compensate these financially oppressed taxpayers.
To understand how this works, we must take a wide-angle view of the situation. We must determine where the wealth is produced, where it ends up, and how it got there.
Every working American produces wealth. That wealth is then taxed by their local, state, and federal governments.
Some Democrat-run states realize that they can increase the amount of federal subsidies they collect through SALT deductions, as they increase the tax burden on their own citizens.
As they are reimbursed by the federal government, this wealth is transferred to these oppressive states.
This is very similar to federal support for Planned Parenthood. While federal law prohibits tax dollars from being spent to provide abortions, the nearly half billion dollars of taxes that subsidize Planned Parenthood's “other services” frees up the funds needed to perform abortions.
In a very true sense, federal taxes are being used to pay for abortions, and in the same way, every American taxpayer is supporting the waste, fraud, and corruption in many Democrat tyrannies through federal SALT deductions.
This system seems especially egregious to citizens who have been forced to abandon the state of their birth, leaving their families and friends to escape tax oppression, only to have their former state use these tax laws to reach into their new state to collect the very taxes they sought to escape.
The only citizens who really benefit from these deductions are the most selfish and tyrannical of politicians and their friends.
God bless you, Dave
