In a recent email I received, by Alliance Defending Freedom, there was a link to an article called, “ Viewpoint Diversity Score .” The author of this email wrote, in part,
“Respecting everyone, regardless of their religious or ideological beliefs, is good for business and society. Companies that respect viewpoint diversity are better equipped to serve people and communities with diverse values, recruit and retain top talent, build trust with key stakeholders, and contribute to a public culture that supports liberal democracy and open markets.”
This email, and the article to which it referred are both very informative, and this particular paragraph is almost right on point, however, the phrase, “respecting everyone,” is one of those phrases that the marxist wordsmiths of modernity love to exploit.
The writer assumes the most innocent use of this phrase, expecting the reader to receive it at face value. They ignore the vicious opportunists that revel in the exploitation of well meaning people, to redefine their terms.
The marxist sees this phrase as an opportunity to present the author as hypocritical, claiming that they can’t possibly respect everyone, if they refuse to respect the wishes of marxist propagandists. They would of course phrase it differently, but the essence would be the same.
If we are to protect liberty for all, we must relentlessly be on the watch, recognizing these attempts, and resisting them. I am certain that this author’s opinion is in perfect alignment with mine on most matters, (as represented in this excellent article,) but I recognize this opening for the marxist’s foot in the door to defame him, or her, (the author’s name was not given in the post.)
I look for these oversights, not to disparage authors, but to sharpen their perception, and ours. Iron sharpens iron, and if we neglect the opportunity to sharpen the countenance of our brethren, we leave the proverbial barn door open to the wolves.
My goal is to help make us all sharper.
God bless you, Dave
