I recognize that Washington is called, “the swamp,” by many, and this was originally because it was literally built in a swamp. In recent times, the meaning has evolved, (in the minds of many,) to refer to the nature of the, “swamp creatures,” that inhabit, yea even migrate to inhabit DC.
Having been being born in New Orleans, LA, and raised in Des Allemands, LA, (the Germans, in French, and very near actual swamps, and marshes,) I have experiential knowledge of swamps. I hunted in the them with my Dad as a boy, and as a young man. I have a great appreciation for God’s creation of swamps. They have a particular beauty that cannot be duplicated in any other environment. Live oak trees line the ridges along the swamps, laden with Spanish moss. Scrawny willow trees are scattered throughout the low terrain, surrounded by water lilies and cut grass, growing in the flooded landscape.
I take issue with the degrading use of the term, “the swamp,” to refer to the disgusting group of ingrates that so often rise to power in the nation’s capital. The nature of these leaches is not synonymous with the natural features of an actual swamp, rather they are more like the vile refuse that emerge from the bowels of mammals, after all of the useful nutrition has been extracted from the food we eat.
There is a repulsive nature about this substance that reeks with the undesirable features of the useless, the perverted, or the poisonous. It is not that this repulsive substance originated this way, it has been perverted to appear as such, and has very little usefulness.
This is what I believe is the true nature of many of the inhabitants of our nation’s capital today. People have have either been born into this environment, or have been drawn to it for various reasons. The reason that individuals are drawn to it determine whether they are, in fact, swamp dwellers, or refuse.
As citizens of this great republic, WE the PEOPLE, must monitor the behavior of those that exercise power in our nation’s capital. It is our duty to know who does what in our name, and on our behalf.
WE the PEOPLE are the sovereign of the United States of America, and it is our duty to direct the behavior of these people.
Are we paying attention? Are we active in chastising those that abuse the power granted them, as they exercise that power against the American civil society, or are we following along like sheep, bleating along with our heads down, headed toward a cliff?
I think it is time for many of us to wake up, smell the oder, and correct course.
God bless you, Dave
