WHAT IS A CONVENTION OF STATES?
Are we in need of such a radical remedy to guard against American Marxism, (tyranny.)
Many of you may not have ever heard of COS, or Convention of States, the organization devoted to civic engagement via Article V of our Constitution, (the amendment article.)
This is a non-partizan, non-profit, association of concerned citizens of the United States of America, determined to see our government restrained by their obligations to the US Constitution.
Mark Meckler is the president of Convention of States Action, and Citizens for Self-Governance.

He is also associated with Patriot Academy, and its course on Biblical Citizenship in Modern America, with David Barton, Tim Barton, and Rick Green. I believe that these organizations, and their utilities are essential toward the salvation, and restoration of our great republic. If the USA is salvageable, it will be through the education, encouragement, and the civic action of concerned citizens, and I believe these organizations are vital tools to that aim.
I believe that each day multiplies the need to restrain the power of the Federal Government. Regardless of your political persuasions, the assault on the liberty of the American citizen of our present administration is inescapable.
I believe that it is time for our citizens to abandon blind trust in, “our institutions,” and the so called, “rule of law.” It is not that I resist the rule of law, but that those who presently hold the reigns of power insist on different rules for themselves, and the common American.
There is but one constitutional remedy for such a situation, the Convention of States, and meaningful amendments to the audacious power of the reigning political party.
Mark Levin Wrote in “The Liberty Amendments,”
“I UNDERTOOK THIS PROJECT not because I believe the Constitution , as originally structured , is outdated and outmoded , thereby requiring modernization through amendments , but because of the opposite — that is , the necessity and urgency of restoring constitutional republicanism and preserving the civil society from the growing authoritarianism of a federal Leviathan . This is not doomsaying or fearmongering but an acknowledgment of fact .
Unlike the modern Statist , who defies , ignores , or rewrites the Constitution for the purpose of evasion , I propose that we , the people , take a closer look at the Constitution for our preservation . The Constitution itself provides the means for restoring self - government and averting societal catastrophe ( or , in the case of societal collapse , resurrecting the civil society ) in Article V .
Article V sets forth the two processes for amending the Constitution , the second of which I have emphasized in italics :
The Congress , whenever two thirds of both Houses shall deem it necessary , shall propose Amendments to this Constitution , or , on the Application of the Legislatures of two thirds of the several States , shall call a Convention for proposing Amendments , which , in either Case , shall be valid to all Intents and Purposes , as Part of this Constitution , when ratified by the Legislatures of three fourths of the several States or by Conventions in three fourths thereof , as the one or the other Mode of Ratification may be proposed by the Congress.
The idea was first presented at the Constitutional Convention on May 29 , 1787 , by Edmund Randolph , governor of Virginia , as a proposal in the so - called Virginia Plan drafted by Madison .
On June 11 , George Mason of Virginia — who had earlier drafted Virginia’s Declaration of Rights , the precursor to the Declaration of Independence — responded to some of the delegates who did not see the necessity of the proposal , by strongly advocating for it .
Col : Mason urged the necessity of such a provision . The plan now to be formed will certainly be defective , as the Confederation has been found on trial to be . Amendments therefore will be necessary , and it will be better to provide for them , in any easy , regular and Constitutional way than to trust to chance and violence . It would be improper to require the consent of the National Legislature , because they may abuse their power , and refuse their consent on that very account.
On September 15 , Mason , alarmed that Congress would have the sole power to propose amendments , continued to insist on state authority to call for conventions . Mason explained that an oppressive Congress would never agree to propose amendments curtailing its own tyranny :
Col : Mason thought the plan of amending the Constitution exceptionable & dangerous . As the proposing of amendments is in both the modes to depend , in the first immediately , and in the second , ultimately , on Congress , no amendments of the proper kind would ever be obtained by the people,
if the Government should become oppressive , as he verily believed would be the case . Mr . [ Gouverneur ] Morris [ of Pennsylvania ] & Mr . [ Elbridge ] Gerry [ of Massachusetts ] moved to amend the article so as to require a Convention on application of 2 / 3 of the Sts [ states .]”
The COS organization is nationwide, and populated with patriots who fear for the nation that they will leave to their children. Please accept my invitation to join me at the Convention of States, where there are ample ways to get involved as volunteers, or as a bearer of good news.
Restoring America to its constitutional greatness will not be easy, but as the little engine said, “I think I can, I think I can.” With the help of our Lord, and the actions of virtuous Americans, I believe restoration is possible.
God bless you, Dave
Last night I attended a meeting held for the pursuit for a convention of states. I am for the first time in along time impressed by finding such a group of people committed to the upholding of our great constitution. The love of the constitution begins by learning how our forefathers strong in their convictions could create an absolutely timeless and enduring piece of governmental ideology filled with all all things necessary to preserve a nation. This meeting held much like meetings held by our forefathers was made up people with the belief we the people. I will be returning to these meetings because I too share in that belief we the people.
Helpful information. Thank you.
