I have been an American for quite some time. Over the years I remember hearing about whistle plowers from time to time. I never gave it much thought because it was usually concerning some area that had little to do with my life.
I thought I had an understanding of what they were, but once again, it was not a pressing concern in my life.
During the final years of the Trump Administration, several “whistleblowers,” were said to have come forth from within Trump’s administration to testify against the President. Something seemed weird about it to me, but I didn’t get too worked up about it. I didn’t live in Washington DC, I didn’t work for the Trump Administration, and I had no official connection to government. But something didn’t seem quite right about any of the “whistle blower news.”
Recently whistleblowers have been coming forth to reveal activities from within the FBI. Once again, something seems awry. Why are these whistleblowers being treated so differently from those that testified against President Trump? And, for that matter, why had those been treated so different than Edward Snowden, and Julian Assange?
Before we go any further we should make sure we understand exactly what a whistle blower is?
Mirriam-Webster says that a Whistleblower is:
One who reveals something covert or who informs against another
especially : an employee who brings wrongdoing by an employer or by other employees to the attention of a government or law enforcement agency
NOTE: A whistleblower is commonly protected legally from retaliation.
I think I remember what was so strange about the whistleblowers against President Trump. Always before, whistleblowers were met with intense skepticism, and distrust by officials, and especially government. During the Trump Administration, they were embraced by those that normally would be skeptical.
To put a finer point on this observation, now that Biden is our President, and his administration is in charge, they are once again very skeptical of the whistleblowers that are coming out, especially those from within the FBI.
When they came our against Trump, all manner of deference was extended toward them, their identities were hidden from the public, and they were protected from any criticism.
These recent informants from within the FBI are met with entirely different circumstances. They are being ridiculed, and having their employment suspended. There seems to be no concern for their rights, and no official gratitude for their revelations.
This is more like how I remembered the treatment of whistleblowers, but why the difference? Why were informants against Trump praised? Could it be that they were all liars? Could it be that they were representatives of the corrupt government entities, and not principled revealers of corruption?
Food for thought.
God bless you, Dave
