Though life requires much of each of us, we are not always cognizant of all such requirements. Many God fearing Christians do not concern themselves with the political. They may believe that those are matters of importance to others, but God does not expect them to be a political activist. This may indeed be true for some, and maybe even many, but each of us should consider whether it is true of ourself.
You may ask what is my point. As I read the Bible, and pay attention to what is going on around me, I can’t help noticing the utter depravity that is represented as the modern American way. People in high places, that have attained to positions of authority issue guidance, and requirements that oppose many of the principals, and commandments given to us in the Bible. Are we to be herded down this perilous road blindly, by those that do not respect life, truth, or the ways of righteousness? Have we no responsibility in these matters?
I believe that these are things that we should be concerned about, and I believe that there are biblical parallels that serve as examples to those with eyes to see, and ears to hear.
In chapter four, of the book of Esther, Mordecai said to Esther, in part, “Who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” What was he talking about?
Mordecai was asking Esther, the queen, to stick her neck out, to seek audience with her husband, the king of the nation to which Israel, her nation, was in bondage to. The law of the Medes and Persians dictated that if the King was not pleased to accept audience with her, her very life was held in the balance.
Why would Mordecai ask such a perilous thing of his niece? Did he not love her? Had he not reared her since the passing of her parents, in her youth? What right, or responsibility had Esther to entangle herself in these political matters? Shouldn’t all of the nation of Israel obey the laws of King Ahasuerus, king of the Medes and Persians, under who’s authority God had delivered them in bondage?
Might we ask why had God delivered Israel into bondage to King Ahasuerus in the first place? In Esther 2:6 we learn that Israel had been captured, and enslaved by Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon. In Judges 17:6 we learn why they were enslaved, “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes.”
If we look into the larger picture related here in Esther, we will find that the law, as dictated by king Ahasuerus, at the request of Haman, was that the entire nation of Israel was to be destroyed, and plundered. Who was this Haman, and why might he want to destroy Israel? On the surface we see that the pride of Haman had been offended by Mordecai, but was this the only reason?
In Esther 3:1, we find that Haman is an Agagite. What is an Agagite? He had descended from Agag, king of The Amalekites,
“He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive,” I Samuel 15:8.
So Haman was a direct descendant of Agag, king of the Amalekites, whom God said was to have been slaughtered by king Saul. The very reason that God repented of having made Saul king, was his disobedience concerning the killing of Agag.
So what am I saying, and how does this apply to our civic duty in America, and our faithful service to God?
Well, Israel was a nation chosen by God for blessing. The people of Israel, and its leaders had forsaken the commandments of God, and sought after wickedness. The wages of this wickedness had piled up to a point that the nation was on the brink of utter destruction due to the judgement of God, yet He provided a salvation, through the simple actions of a faithful believer, in the face of mortal threat.
I believe that our nation is in peril. I believe that the disobedience of Americans to biblical truths, our Constitution, and our allegiance to despotic politicians has brought us to a point of choosing. We must decide whether we will accept the “laws” of the unjust, who have risen to rule over us, or whether we will resist.
Esther was given this choice by Mordecai, “And Mordecai told them to answer Esther: ‘Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?’” Esther 4:13 & 14.
If it is God’s will to deliver the USA from her enemies, both foreign and domestic, it will require the faithful choices of God’s people, from within the nation of the United States of America.
Could you and I be those faithful American disciples?
God bless you, Dave
